ABOUT US

We are not scientists and definitely not neuroscientists, but when the human brain grabbed our attention, as both parents and educators we were bowled over with its super powers and swept up with the simplicity - “That our thoughts create our feelings that determine our actions.”

Julia – A long time ago Julia was a ‘specialist painter & muralist’ living in Hong Kong. Skip on a few years, a marriage, two teenagers and a cat and she is now a co-founder and director of BEST 4 Learning.

In 2010, Julia became interested in different approaches to learning and through studying Dyslexia and Dyspraxia for two years and becoming trained in Reading Recovery, she went on to transfer her artistic skills into providing bespoke interventions, to help children to learn, using visual and kinaesthetic support.

Vicky - When Vicky was ‘much’ younger she spent time in America,
providing sports activities in kids holiday camps, which then transferred
into working, within the fitness industry and personal training, specialising
in Fitness and Nutrition. Marriage, three young adults, and two dogs later, she is a co-founder and director of BEST 4 Learning.

In 2008 Vicky began volunteering with The Lighthouse Group, teaching sport to teenagers who had been excluded from mainstream school. She saw first-hand, how through physical activity, these children, were able to build confidence and self-esteem which was lacking from elsewhere in their lives.

“Children, whose behaviour in school was incredibly challenging, turned up to practice, were good teambuilders, and communicated far better than in a classroom. It was inspiring.”

Both of us went on to study child psychology and the development of the brain, whilst researching Autism, Asperger’s, ADHD and Anxiety to enable a better understanding of the different challenges that many children face, affecting their daily lives.

By taking our research and adding our own observations, over a decade of teaching, ideas and interpretations that make sense to us, we created innovative, engaging and educational programmes that develop those skills that our brains aren’t born with, those skills we need to develop and practice, Life Skills, such as Self-Awareness, Resilience, Empathy.

What now seems a lifetime ago, our two boys were in the same Reception class, we became friends, and the rest, as they is...
